Security tips for e-banking and Mobile Banking

Security is a top priority for e-banking and Mobile Banking. UBS offers you the securest solutions for carrying out your financial transactions around the clock. Find out everything you need to know about security in the following tips.

Security tip #1

Stay informed about account movements and card transactions by SMS, e-mail or Push message to keep a constant overview of your finances.

Information means security. Thanks to notifications by SMS, e-mail or Push via app, you will be informed about the following events in real time:

  • Debits and credits to your accounts
  • If the balance in your account falls below or exceeds a certain amount
  • Credit card transactions

Activate the notification function for your accounts and cards now:

  • In e-banking under "Assets" or "Cards"
  • In Mobile Banking under "Push notification"

Security tip #2

If your debit, credit or prepaid cards get lost or stolen, block them straight away in e-banking or Mobile Banking.

Protect yourself against losses by blocking lost or stolen cards. You can do so easily in e-banking and Mobile Banking at any time without having to make any phone calls. You can block your cards here:

  • In e-banking: Select "Cards > Administration"
  • In Mobile Banking: Select "Service > Credit and prepaid cards" or "Service > Debit cards"
  • Replacement cards will be ordered automatically

Security tip #3

Greater security for online payments

You can quickly and effectively improve your security when making payments via e-banking and Mobile Banking app with the following settings.

Simply block all countries to which you have not yet made any online payments with the help of the setup wizard in e-banking. Following this, transfers to these countries via e-banking or the Mobile Banking app are no longer possible.

The setup wizard can be found in e-banking under "Payments > Settings > Security settings > Country restrictions".

Tip: You can also block countries at any time in the Mobile Banking App under Settings & Services > Self-Service > Set up country restrictions.

The monthly payment limit applies to payments via e-banking and Mobile Banking app. Set the limit a little higher than the total of your usual monthly payments – without account transfers. In this way, all the payments will be executed.

You specify the limit in e-banking under "Payments > Settings > Security settings > Payment limit".

Confirmation is only required if your payments to new payees exceed this monthly limit.

You specify the limit in e-banking under "Payments > Settings > Security settings > Payment limit".

If your requirements change, you can simply readjust your settings. You confirm each relaxation of the security settings with your Access Card and card reader or the Access Card Display.

Security tip #4

Modify your card limits and the geographical area in which your UBS Debit Card Maestro can be used depending on the situation.

This reduces the risk of card misuse, especially during or after trips abroad. You can set your own daily and monthly limits and change them at any time in e-banking and Mobile Banking.

With your UBS Debit Card Maestro, you decide which geographical areas your card can be used in.

  • Worldwide
  • In Europe
  • In Switzerland and Liechtenstein

Just make your choice:

  • In e-banking under "Cards > Limits & region of use"
  • In the UBS Mobile Banking app under "Service > Cards"

Security tip #5

Never disclose your personal access data to anyone by e-mail, telephone or on the Internet.

Fraudsters are unable to directly bypass the high security barriers in e-banking and Mobile Banking. That's why they try to get hold of your personal access data via phishing or by using fake e-mails, telephone calls or Internet sites.

Here's how to reduce the risk:

  • Always make sure that you are on the right Internet site: ubs.com
  • Never disclose your personal access data like contract number and PIN or the code displayed by the Access Card to third parties. Always be wary if someone asks you for it.
  • Delete e-mails and SMS if you don't recognize the sender

Security tip #6

Always end your e-banking and Mobile Banking sessions by logging out.

Make sure you log out at the end of every session: Using the logout button in the top right-hand corner in e-banking, or under Logout in the menu in Mobile Banking. If you aren't using your own computer: Always delete the browser history after logging out. This will ensure that unauthorized parties can't access your e-banking.

Security tip #7

Use the latest browser and anti-virus programs.

Always keep your computer software fully up to date:

  • Carry out all the updates available for your operating system and Internet browser
  • Use up-to-date anti-virus software
  • Set up a firewall
  • Use an e-mail spam filter

Security check for your computer:

The Swiss Internet Security Alliance (SISA) is an initiative by UBS and other Swiss companies to fight cybercriminality. On the SISA website, you can test whether your computer is well protected:

Security tip #8

In Mobile Banking, you can carry out your banking transactions just as securely as in e-banking.

The Mobile Banking app meets the highest security standards – just like e-banking. To carry out a payment in Mobile Banking, log in as follows:

  • With the card reader and your Access Card and PIN
  • Ideal when you're on the move: With the Access Card Display/Access Card NFC and your PIN (no card reader required)

Logging in is a two-stage process and is particularly secure:

  • The Access Card is not linked to the Internet
  • Your access data is encrypted

Thanks to the payment blocker, transfers are only possible via the Mobile Banking app if you have already confirmed the beneficiary once in e-banking.

The Access Card Display/NFC is available to order in e-banking:
"Offerings > Means of access". The Access Card Display/NFC can also be used for e-banking via desktop and in association with the card reader.
