The main card in Mobile Pay is the card that can be used without opening the UBS Mobile Banking App. If a main card is not defined in Mobile Pay, you’ll have to select one each time you make a payment. Mobile Pay will always display the required information.
The main card can be registered in Mobile Pay during the registration process or changed or deleted later in the settings (navigation: Settings > Cards > Mobile payments).
Mobile Pay is based on tokenization technology. When a UBS Credit or Prepaid Card is approved, a token is generated for Mobile Pay for the card – an encryption number for your 16-digit card number including the date of expiry. This token is then forwarded to the wallet provider, stored on a server and processed to the extent needed to provide the Mobile Pay service. The token is also linked to the UBS Mobile Banking App.
When paying at a card terminal, the token is once again assigned in the background through the credit card network (Mastercard and Visa) to the 16-digit credit or prepaid card number, and the corresponding payment is charged to this card. Thanks to this technology, your “true” credit and prepaid card numbers and expiry date are always encrypted – even the merchant from whom you are making a purchase sees only the token.
NFC (Near Field Communication) is the same technology that you may have encountered in ski passes or in your access pass at work.
