Q & A

Who is eligible for a grant?

The UBS Culture Foundation supports professional artists in various fields who are Swiss nationals or reside in Switzerland and cultural projects that are closely connected to Switzerland. We are happy to accept your proposal if your request fulfils the criteria of one of our seven support areas and you have taken our positive and negative criteria into account. If you have questions about your proposal, we ask that you please email or call the Foundation Office for clarification before applying.

What documents are required for a proposal?

When should I submit the application?

Grant proposals must be submitted no later than three months before the foundation board meeting. These take place twice a year, in the second and fourth quarters. We therefore recommend early submission, as no grants are awarded retroactively. Exact dates are available on request.

When can I submit a proposal?

Where do I submit my proposal?

Please email your grant proposal application as a PDF to kulturstiftung@ubs.com. The foundation does not accept applications by post.

How much funding can I expect?

We have a limited amount of funding available. We award grants once per project or individual so that our contributions can benefit as broad and diverse a range of artists and organisations as possible. Grants generally vary in size from CHF 3,000 to CHF 25,000. Priority projects may be awarded between CHF 30,000 and CHF 100,000. The Foundation Board will determine the size of the grants. As a guide, our annual reports publicise the amounts awarded in the various support areas.

Who decides on my proposal and when?

Grant proposals are reviewed in three stages. The Foundation Office checks whether the application follows both our general guidelines and the criteria for the specific support area. The grant proposals that fulfil these criteria are then reviewed by an expert committee in the run-up to the Board meeting and, if approved, are then submitted to the Foundation Board for further consideration. The Foundation Board makes a final decision at one of its biannual meetings in the second and fourth quarters.

How am I informed on the status of the evaluation process?

The Office will normally confirm receipt of your application within 10 working days and inform you about the estimated duration of the process. The Foundation Board’s decision will be sent to you by email.

If you still have any unanswered questions, you can email or call the UBS Culture Foundation Office.
