Working at UBS

Empowering employees to unlock their potential

We're known as a great place to work, whatever the business area, role or life stage. We aim to be a responsible and supportive employer, enabling our employees to thrive in our collaborative culture while balancing work and personal responsibilities in ways that work for them. Here’s a glimpse of what it’s like to work here.

Home office, or in the office?

For many employees, both are possible. We’ve long supported flexible working options; as a result, most employees are eligible to work partially from home, depending on role, regulatory restrictions and location, as well as divisional or functional requirements. For employees with hybrid-working arrangements, regular in-office days promote team building, collaboration and a sense of belonging, all of which are key to integrating our businesses and shaping a unified identity and culture. And, options to work in flexible locations or with flexible hours, part-time working, job-sharing and partial retirement help us attract – and retain – a larger and more diverse workforce, including early-career talent, working parents and those in continuing education. The emphasis on technology and virtual collaboration also spark the kind of innovative thinking that makes us more agile and helps us further improve clients’ – and colleagues’ – experiences.

Health and well-being

We care about our employees, and we’re committed to supporting them. Spanning social, physical, mental and financial well-being, our comprehensive health and well-being offering includes a wide range of programs, benefits, eLearning and workplace resources. All are designed to help our employees manage their health, foster well-being and promote the organization’s sustainability. Over the past year, we’ve particularly focused on helping employees across our combined organization adapt to changes related to the integration of Credit Suisse, including offering instructor-led sessions on resilience and on managing organizational change and uncertainty.

To promote physical and mental health, we sponsor firm-wide initiatives like virtual fitness challenges and provide mental health support that includes an employee assistance program and free access to a specialized mindfulness app. We became a founding partner of #WorkingWithCancer in 2023 to better support employees affected by cancer. We also sponsored financial education events in every region and helped employees positively impact their communities by matching charitable donations and offering paid leave to volunteer in community and environmental initiatives.

Employee benefits and assistance

A big part of being a great place to work is providing access to competitive benefits. Ours – which include retirement benefits, health care, insurance against risks like disability, and personal leave – are custom-designed to meet the needs of our local employee base. They often go beyond what’s legally required or even common in that market, for example company-provided or subsidized health services, childcare and fitness options in some locations.

We offer generous paid parental leave and beyond that, paid family-care leave in many locations globally. All employees are entitled to take paid parental leave as indicated in their local HR policies, including in the case of adoption. Primary caregivers in our major locations are offered a paid leave between 20 to 30 weeks, while non-primary caregivers are offered between four to 20 weeks. In Switzerland, primary caregivers are entitled to a minimum of 26 weeks and non-primary caregivers are entitled to a minimum of four weeks. New mothers returning to work can continue to breastfeed and/or pump and store breastmilk and can use working time for this. In the US, UBS contributes to employees’ dependent care flexible spending accounts and employees responsible for caring for young children are eligible for back-up care, including in-home care options. Employees in the UK are offered back-up childcare options, and in Switzerland, we’re members of three associations that advise on childcare and help employees find access to regular and emergency childcare.

We actively support hybrid working options (a mix of home and in-office working) and flexible working arrangements (e.g., part-time, job-sharing and partial-retirement roles). In all locations, comprehensive employee assistance programs help employees manage issues like stress, illness, personal conflict, finances, bereavement, mental health and elder care.
