Mariéme has been honoured with the Global Goals Innovation Award at the inaugural Goalkeepers 2017 event, organised by the Gates Foundation and Project Everyone to highlight solutions to advance the UN's Global Goals.
Former US President Barack Obama gave the keynote address at the event in New York City, alongside appearances from leading thinkers and activists such as education campaigner Malala Yousafzai and pop star will.i.am.
Accepting her award, Mariéme said: "In 2017, no girl or boy should be left behind… To me that's the essence of the global goals. I'm a Goalkeeper… and I'm going to be accountable to you, I'm going to come back next year and tell you what my girls are doing, how many languages they're coding… I'm going to come back and tell you what my girls have done in Senegal, Uganda, in Kinshasa, in Buenos Aires. To me, that is what the Global Goals are. Thank you so much for having me here, this is an amazing honour for me and this is for my girls."
