The bag saving lives in childbirth

Zubaida Bai, Founder and CEO of ayzh Inc.

Being a mother gives me a lot of inspiration...every product we sell impacts lives.

  • For-profit social enterprise ayzh Inc. sells a $3 Clean Birth Kit in the developing world. The kit contains simple tools designed to prevent infection around the time of childbirth.
  • More than five-million mothers and infants die annually due to infection-related causes. Over 80% of these deaths are concentrated in 30 countries, the highest number in India.
  • Clean Birth Kits have reached more than 700,000 women and newborns, while 6,000 health workers have received essential tools and training. Use of clean birth kits have been associated with a 57% reduction in neonatal mortality in India.
  • The enterprise has now added further kits for newborn care, post-partum health and menstrual hygiene and expanded its production units.
  • Zubaida started out as a mechanical engineer and product designer before becoming a social entrepreneur. A WEF Young Global Leader and TED fellow, her many accolades include an Honorary doctorate from Claremont Graduate University.
