Zurich/Basel, 19 May 2014 – UBS is extending its sponsorship deals with Athletissima Lausanne, Weltklasse Zürich, UBS Kids Cup and the Swiss Athletics association by a further four years. We are also beginning to sponsor the Galà dei Castelli athletics event in Bellinzona. These athletics commitments are cornerstones of UBS's current sponsorship activities.
Lukas Gähwiler, CEO UBS Switzerland, says "UBS has a long tradition of supporting sport and culture in Switzerland. As regards sport, we are engaged in every region. Encouraging our children and young people in this respect is particularly close to my heart. Many talents find their way to the pinnacle of sport through athletics. That is why we support grass-roots sport as well as top events."
Since the summer of 2011, UBS has been nurturing talents in the field of athletics through the UBS Kids Cup, which reaches over 100,000 children up to 15 years of age throughout Switzerland every year. UBS is also proud to have been a partner of the two Swiss Diamond League events in Lausanne and Zurich for more than 30 years.
The European Athletics Championships in Zurich will be a particular highlight this year. UBS is supporting this unique event as an "international partner" and the Swiss team as its "leading partner". Packed stadiums, the enthusiasm of fans and, above all, what are hoped to be top performances from our athletes should make for some unforgettable moments.
UBS will also be supporting ice hockey's Spengler Cup in Davos, the next Swiss Federal Wrestling and Alpine Sports Festival, which takes place 2016 in Estavayer-le-Lac, and cultural events across the whole of Switzerland such as Art Basel, the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Locarno International Film Festival.
