A new series of virtual 'in dialogue' events featuring high profile leaders in Asia Pacific was launched in partnership with Global Wealth Management. Timed with International Women's Day and #eachforequal, the first session featured Kimberley Stafford, Head of PIMCO for Asia Pacific, who called in from her office in Newport Beach, California.
Interviewed virtually by Yvonne Man, co-anchor of Bloomberg's “Daybreak Asia” and “Bloomberg Markets: China Open”, Kim covered a range of topics from commentary on today’s volatile markets and PIMCO’s response, to their strategy on ESG and her personal journey as a leader and thoughts on culture. Tracey Woon, Vice Chair of Global Wealth Management and Head of their female segment, introduced the call highlighting how UBS is committed to better serving women. Tracey added that women represent 49.6% of the global population, and that by 2020, women will control USD72 trillion of wealth.
To my younger self, I would advise that it's not about having a prescriptive career plan but to be open-minded about the different opportunities that arise.
Kim shared her journey at PIMCO from having started fresh out of college twenty years ago to where she is now. She also commented on the market volatility which has been quite exceptional during this period and shared her thoughts on why clients would be best served to stay the course, make sure they’ve got liquidity and not to make rash decisions in this market.
The conversation continued with Kim sharing further thoughts on ESG in the current environment, PIMCO's philanthropy efforts on the economic empowerment of women, the male perspective when it comes to equality and whether COVID-19 will have impact on the U.S. elections.
UBS will continue to shine light on powerful leaders in Asia throughout the year for insights on leadership and their respective industries.
