Opening UBS key4 trading
- You are already a UBS client and have the UBS Mobile Banking App or access to E-Banking.
- You are resident in Switzerland and over 18 years old.
- You are not a US citizen and have no tax liability in the US.
- You have a smartphone.
UBS key4 trading is available to all our clients – including those who don’t have UBS key4 banking.
It’s easy:
- Open the UBS Mobile Banking App.
- Tap on the three dots at the bottom right (“More”).
- Select “Discover our products” under “Products and services”.
- Scroll to “Trading” and tap on it.
- Follow the steps to open UBS key4 trading.
The opening process is completely digital and only takes a few minutes.
It’s not yet possible to open UBS key4 trading directly in E-Banking.
However, once you’ve completed the opening process in the UBS Mobile Banking App, you’ll also be able to view your key4 trading portfolio in E-Banking and use it for trading.
Yes, you can open UBS key4 trading online at any time.
Once you have completed the opening process for UBS key4 trading, you will be able to see your custody account straight away in Digital Banking. The associated portfolio overview will be available within a few days.

Trading with UBS key4 trading
UBS key4 trading offers access to tradable financial instruments from the three most widely traded markets: Switzerland, Germany and the US. The available investment classes are:
- equities
- ETFs (exchange-traded funds)
- investment funds
UBS key4 trading gives you access to the following stock exchanges:
- Switzerland: SIX Swiss Exchange
- US: New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), NASDAQ
- Germany: Deutsche Börse Xetra
This selection allows you to trade a broad range of financial instruments from the three most widely traded markets.
Instrument name, ISIN, RIC, security number (Valor) and symbol.
Search results are grouped according to investment class so that you can find them again easily at any time. If there are a lot of similar instruments in the same investment class, please double-check the ISIN to ensure you have selected the desired instrument.
UBS key4 trading is an execution-only custody account. This means that you make your own investment decisions. UBS simply executes your orders or forwards them – without providing investment advice. No appropriateness or suitability assessment is therefore carried out.
There are several ways to access the screen for entering orders to place a trade:
- Via the “More” menu (bottom right):
- Navigate to “Trading” under “Markets & Trading”.
- Tap on “Buy”.
- Select your UBS key4 trading portfolio.
- Search for the desired instrument and enter your order.
- Alternatively, via “Assets”:
- Tap on “More”.
- Tap on “Assets” under “Popular”.
- Select your UBS key4 trading portfolio.
- Tap on “Buy”.
- Search for the desired instrument and enter your order.
- Directly via the UBS Mobile Banking App home screen (provided you have the “Performance Overview” widget activated):
- Tap on your UBS key4 trading portfolio.
- Search for the desired instrument and place your order.
There are two views available for entering orders:
- Standard (recommended for simple trades):
market and limit orders possible – fast, clear and without additional functions. - Advanced (for experienced users):
offers additional options for on-stop, stop-loss and stop-limit orders, and allows you to select the trading venue.
You can change the view in the UBS Mobile Banking App at any time:
- On the home screen, tap on your profile at the top left.
- Go to "Settings > Trading > Order Entry".
Select the view you want.
To do this, you need to be in the advanced view (see previous question).
You can adjust the trading venue in the buy or sell order accordingly.
Yes, you can enable notifications in two ways:
- When opening UBS key4 trading:
if you haven’t already got default notifications enabled, you can turn them on directly during the opening process.
- Afterward in the Mobile Banking App:
- On the home screen, tap on your profile at the top left.
- Go to “Settings > Notification rules”.
- Scroll down to the “Markets & Trading” section and add a new rule for your UBS key4 trading portfolio there.
Portfolio management and performance tracking
The portfolio overview gives you quick access to important functions, such as buying and selling securities, as well as to an overview of your orders.
In addition, it provides a comprehensive overview of the performance of your UBS key4 trading portfolio, your current positions, asset allocation and other relevant information about your investments.
The portfolio overview is currently being set up and should be available soon. In the meantime, you can already start trading.
As soon as your portfolio is ready, you’ll find it:
- In the UBS Mobile Banking App under:
"More > Assets > Select your UBS key4 trading portfolio"
You can also add the "Performance Overview" widget to your home screen to have an overview of your portfolio at all times. - In UBS E-Banking under:
"Accounts & Investments > Asset overview > Select your UBS key4 trading portfolio"
Services and prices
The following fees apply to UBS key4 trading:
- Transaction fee:
0.75% of the investment amount, but at least CHF 10 per transaction.
→ If the amount calculated is less than CHF 10, the minimum amount of CHF 10 will be charged automatically.
→ If the amount exceeds CHF 10, the corresponding percentage of 0.75% will be applied.
- Custody account fee:
0.35% of the average invested assets.
→ This fee is debited from the account each quarter.
Clients under the age of 26 and students under the age of 30 with UBS key4 banking get a 50% discount on all prices; this means they only pay a transaction fee of 0.375% (or at least CHF 5 per transaction) and a custody account fee of 0.175% per year.
Yes, transactions in a foreign currency – for example, when purchasing a stock in EUR or USD – incur an exchange rate surcharge of up to 1.70% of the investment amount.
You can avoid this fee by using a foreign currency account in the relevant currency (e.g. EUR or USD) for the corresponding transaction.
You can order a tax statement either by calling the UBS hotline or directly through your client advisor.
A tax statement can be provided for a fee of CHF 50 (plus VAT).
The Switzerland tax statement includes all tax-relevant assets in your client relationship for the respective tax period, including all positions in all related accounts.
The price only applies if the business relationship includes only UBS key4 trading custody accounts. The standard conditions apply to additional UBS custody accounts.
Conditions for free trades
Until 31 December 2026, you will benefit from the reimbursement of the transaction costs of one transaction per quarter. The offer of free trades via UBS key4 trading is subject to the following conditions:
- Only the transaction costs or brokerage fees charged will be reimbursed. Third-party expenses and duties (e.g. value added tax, withholding tax, stamp duties) are excluded from the reimbursement.
- The maximum trading value of the transaction is CHF 5,000 or EUR 5,000 or USD 5,000. The nominal amount of the transaction is decisive, without taking into account transaction costs, brokerage fees, third-party fees or duties. Transactions with a higher trading value are not taken into account; a pro rata reimbursement is not possible.
- Only one transaction per quarter and per banking relationship is taken into account – irrespective of whether it is a purchase or a sale.
- The transaction must be carried out via UBS key4 trading.
- Only the first transaction in the given quarter that meets all of the above criteria, irrespective of the currency, is eligible for reimbursement. Further transactions are subject to the regular costs in accordance with the applicable price brochure

- The transaction costs will be reimbursed at the beginning of the following quarter.
- The reimbursement will be credited to the same account from which the transaction costs were originally debited.
- The client relationship and the UBS key4 trading securities custody account must be active at the time of the reimbursement.
- The offer is valid for transactions executed up to and including 31 December 2026.
- The applicable opening conditions apply to the opening of a UBS key4 trading account.

Error messages
Please recommence the opening process by either starting the process again in the app or completely restarting the UBS Mobile Banking App. In many cases, this will already solve the problem.
If you receive an error message informing you that you will be “contacted shortly”, we are reviewing the case internally. We will notify you once the issue has been resolved.
