Alison Telfer appointed Country Head Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, October 18, 2021 – UBS Asset Management announces that Alison Telfer has been appointed Country Head Australia and New Zealand. John Mowat, who has held the role ad interim, will resume his previous responsibilities of Head of UBS Asset Management’s Real Estate Business full time in January 2022 when Alison commences.

Alison joins UBS Asset Management from Blackrock, where she has worked for the past 8 years, most recently as Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel and Head of Public Policy for Australasia helping provide global capabilities to the local market and assisting BlackRock and clients to navigate regulatory change. Alison has over 20 years of experience working in Australian and global asset management. She has held a range of roles within the asset management industry spanning product development, strategy, client distribution, legal, compliance, regulatory and government affairs as well as the COO function. Prior to Blackrock, Alison served as senior legal counsel and later as a director, Specialised Product Development and co-investment group at Challenger Limited.

About Alison Telfer

Alison has over 20 years of experience working in Australian and global asset management. Alison has held a range of roles within the asset management industry spanning product development, strategy, client distribution, legal, compliance, regulatory and government affairs as well as the COO function. Alison was most recently Chief Operating Officer and Head of Public Policy for BlackRock Investment Management Australasia, and is also a member of the Financial Services Council Investment Experts Group. Alison joined BlackRock in 2013 initially as general counsel and head of compliance and was appointed Head of Public Policy in 2016, Chair of the Australian Board in 2019 and COO Australasia in 2020. Reflecting her passion for developing talent and culture, Alison was the Executive Sponsor for BlackRock Women’s Initiative Australasia and for the firm’s Philanthropic Committee. Alison also held seats on BlackRock’s Asia Pacific Stewardship Committee and a number of diversity and mentoring initiatives.

Prior to joining BlackRock, Alison served for 8 years at Challenger, initially as senior legal counsel and later, director of specialized product development and co-investments working with institutional investors.

She holds a BA (communications/LLB).
