Amar Hamoudi Ph.D

Global Head of New Analytic Approaches
Executive Director

Amar joined UBS in June 2019 in order to bring the scientific method of hypothesis driven empirical research to sell-side analysis. What are the general principles that (often, implicitly) underlie an analyst's investment thesis? How can those principles, once explicated, be taken to data in order to be validated and sharpened? What questions can be answered through the considered application of statistical techniques, and – perhaps more importantly – what questions cannot?

Prior to joining UBS, Amar worked in retail banking (analyzing transaction-level data in order to draw insights about household and consumer finance) and at a financial technology firm (analyzing customer behavior in order to design optimal pricing policies).

Prior to moving into the commercial sector, Amar spent more than a decade in academic research and teaching. His last faculty posting was in Public Policy and Economics at Duke University, where he taught applied/empirical microeconomics to undergraduates and graduate students. His research in population economics was published in leading economics, public health, and demography journals.

Amar holds a PhD in Economics from UCLA, a Master's degree in International Development from the Harvard Kennedy School, and a Baccalaureate degree in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard College.
