Our values stand firm, no matter what the situation is.
It doesn’t matter what issue our in-house legal department is faced with. We are constantly developing our expertise in new laws and regulations, to ensure we remain firmly on track. It’s about providing confidence to our clients and colleagues, when navigating through complex legal challenges. With our training, your skills will develop and grow in an environment that’s built upon the "3Es": experience, exposure and education. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a broad range of legal work, and the support to drive real impact.
Playing our part
What role does Legal play within UBS?
Day to day, we deal with both current and potential legal risks. Being ahead of the curve and truly proactive, is what makes us effective. We develop close working relationships with the business divisions and group functions, which allows us to gain great insight into their legal challenges and opportunities.
The scope of our work is exceptionally broad, covering potential, threatened and commenced litigation, advice on new products and services, data management and protection issues, , employment law matters, corporate governance topics, competition law considerations, just to name a few.

What are we looking out for?
We want students who show a keen interest in UBS and our industry and are curious to learn how legal frameworks drive opportunities, stability and maintain reputation. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment but still deliver thoughtful solutions to problems is key. UBS is a great place to work and we want people who see challenges as opportunities and have a desire to develop and grow.
What can I do to stand out?
Being prepared for every step of the application process will create a great first impression. Think about the role you are applying for, what genuinely interests you, and what you can bring to the table? Being able to talk about where your current skills may align, but also being open and honest about the gaps and where you can develop, and what you want to learn once in the role. Do your homework – reach out to your network, speak to former grads on LinkedIn or attend industry events. Finally be yourself. Diversity of mindsets is critical to UBS, we are looking for people who will share our common purpose but reach our goals in different ways.
What support will I receive?
Everyone who joins UBS will be given a combination of on-the-job training and formal training. When you join you will be assigned a mentor or buddy depending on the program. Your line manager will take an active role in your career progression and development.
A few extra things to remember
Preparation is key – candidates who stand out candidates are always prepared. Ask questions. We love talking about our roles and why UBS is a great place to work. So don’t be shy.
Hear from our people
I work for the Outside Counsel Management team in Group General Counsel (Legal). My team manages law firms hired around the world by Legal department. We cooperate with UBS In-house Counsels in choosing the best vendors in a cost efficient way. The area of our tasks is very wide, as we are responsible for vendor risk and contract management, annual vendor meetings, financial forecast, or artificial intelligence projects etc.. I like working in UBS not only for the interesting job I have, but also for the different opportunities that I can get after work, such as UBS networks, like ArtDecoder, or Trekking section and volunteering projects that CSR organizes for local communities.
