The economic power of the gaming industry

The global gaming market continues to steadily grow. According to Newzoo, revenue is expected to rise to approximately USD 189 billion by 2025[A1]  and to over USD 206 billion by 2028. The number of players has grown from 3.6 billion to nearly 3.9 billion.

Console games are the key revenue driver: in 2025, USD 46 billion was spent on console games, USD 103 billion on mobile games and nearly USD 40 billion on PC games. Consoles recorded the strongest growth at 5.5%. China remains the largest market, followed by the United States and Japan.

eSports has grown into a billion-dollar industry in its own right. Since 2021, global eSports revenue has exceeded the USD 1 billion mark annually and now stands at over USD 2 billion. Revenue comes from sponsorships, media rights, ticket sales and digital revenue.
