Hong Kong, 24 September 2019 – Today, UBS brings three Nobel award winners in economic sciences to Hong Kong as part of its global event series – the Nobel Perspectives Live! During the two-day visit, more than 500 altogether students at Hong Kong universities and secondary schools, as well as UBS clients and employees will attend events featuring Nobel Laureates in the field of economic sciences:

Bengt R. Holmstrom of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who won the Nobel Prize in 2016 with Oliver Hart for contributions to contract theory, is best known for his work on the principal-agent problem.

Robert Merton of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, who won the Nobel Prize in 1997 with Myron S. Scholes for a new method to determine the value of derivatives, is a leading light in financial economics.

Michael Spence of NYU Stern School of Business, who received the Nobel Prize in 2001 with George A. Akerlof and Joseph E. Stiglitz for analyses of markets with asymmetric information, is an expert on the rise of technology and artificial intelligence and its effect on global labor markets.

The Nobel Laureates will discuss and debate a wide range of topics  encompassing the Sino-US trade war, the economic outlook in China, the US election, disruptive technology and sustainable growth.   

Nobel Perspecitves Live! Hong Kong is the fifth stop in the Nobel Perspectives Live! event series. Previous events have been held in Singapore, Shanghai, New York City and London.
