Sydney, July 11 2016 - UBS welcomed 50 year 11 public school students with a demonstrated flair for finance at the prestigious UBS Finance Academy in Sydney today.
The students from across Australia have been selected to attend the week long, fully subsidised residential program that aims to provide a practical understanding of global financial markets while highlighting the range of finance related career opportunities available to them.
The program, now in its 14th year, has provided more than 650 public school students with first hand insight into the world of finance while helping build their confidence, determination and business knowledge.
The students have been selected by The Secondary School Principals’ Council in each state who assess each student on their aptitude for business, economics and other finance related subjects.
President of the NSW Secondary School Principals’ Council, Chris Presland said, “We're delighted to work with UBS on this important initiative that provides students with a rare insight into the opportunities available within the world of finance. The financial services sector is a substantial driver of the Australian economy, in 2015, the industry employed more than 420,000 people and
contributed 9 percent to the Australian economy."
Matthew Grounds, UBS Chief Executive Officer, Australasia said, “Over the years we have seen so many promising and high achieving students develop their knowledge, skills and leadership capabilities through our Academy program. It is particularly pleasing, and a great testament to the program, that six of our current cadet intake previously attended the UBS Finance Academy."
Over the course of the week students gain a practical knowledge of financial markets from 'day in the life' presentations from UBS employees. The students will also tour UBS' live trading floor and attend field trips to fintech hub Stone & Chalk, CNBC television studios and NSW Art Gallery.
