New York, June 16, 2016—UBS O'Connor LLC (O'Connor), the multi-strategy hedge fund manager within UBS Asset Management, announced today that it has hired seven portfolio managers for new positions in New York, Chicago and London.

In New York, Erin Browne joins as a Portfolio Manager focusing on equity investments with macro economic thesis, along with Andrew Hamerling and James Moynihan who join as Portfolio Managers co-running an equity long/ short telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT) strategy.

Ryan Stephens joins in Chicago as a Portfolio Manager covering the financial sector in equities.

In London, Anthony Burton and Phil Pearson join as Portfolio Managers co-running TMT equity strategy. Paul Findlay also joins as a Portfolio Manager and European generalist.

They join following the hire earlier this year of Kevin Russell as Chief Investment Officer of O'Connor, as well as Lynn Challenger and Donna Winston who joined UBS Asset Management's Equities, Multi-Asset and O’Connor business as Head of Trading and Chief Administrative Officer respectively.

Erin Browne – Portfolio Manager, New York, Macro

Erin Browne joins UBS O'Connor LLC as a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager focusing on Macro, based in New York. She was previously a Portfolio Manager for Point72 Asset Management’s Global Macroeconomic group for four years. Before joining Point72, Ms. Browne worked at Citigroup, where she ran the Global Macro Proprietary Trading Group. Prior to that, Ms. Browne worked as the Equity Strategist for the Global Macro Fund at Moore Capital Management in New York. Before her role at Moore Capital, Ms. Browne was as an Equity Research Analyst at Neuberger Berman where she specialized in the Technology sector. She began her career at Lehman Brothers in the investment banking division. Ms. Browne earned her BA in Economics from Georgetown University. In addition to her involvement with industry and professional groups, she serves on the board of SoundWaters.

Andrew Hamerling – Portfolio Manager, New York, TMT

Andrew Hamerling joins as a Director and Portfolio Manager, based in New York, co-running telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT) strategy with his co-PM, James Moynihan. Prior to joining O'Connor, Mr. Hamerling was Founder, Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager at Wavelength Asset Management, a low-net, fundamental, equites-focused, TMT hedge fund. Mr. Hamerling has operated as a TMT Portfolio Manager for the past decade and has spent more than 20 years working in Equity Research on both the buy side and sell side, all in research and analysis capacities within the TMT space. Prior to Wavelength, he spent more than six years as a Portfolio Manager at J. Goldman & Company, a hedge fund investing in the global telecom and media sectors. Prior to joining the buy side, Mr. Hamerling was a Vice President at Banc of America Securities, where he led the Firm’s sell-side equity research effort dedicated to the coverage of both the emerging and incumbent domestic wireline telecommunications services sectors. Mr. Hamerling graduated from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management.

James Moynihan – Portfolio Manager, New York, TMT

James Moynihan joins as a Director and Portfolio Manager, based in New York, co-running TMT equity strategy with Andrew Hamerling. He has over 19 years of institutional investment experience. Recently, Mr. Moynihan was a Managing Director at Wavelength Asset Management. Prior to Wavelength, he spent over eight years as a General Partner at Kettle Hill Capital Management. Before Kettle Hill, he was a Vice President and the Senior Telecommunications Analyst at Merrill Lynch. He started his career as a Research Analyst at National Economics Research Associates. Mr. Moynihan graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine with a BA in Economics. He is also a CFA Charterholder.

Ryan Stephens joins in Chicago as a Director and Portfolio Manager covering Financials. Most recently, Mr. Stephens was a Portfolio Manager at Surveyor Capital. Prior to Surveyor Capital, he spent six years as a Portfolio Manager and Partner at Philadelphia Financial of San Francisco, a global financials long/short equity fund. Mr. Stephens began his investment career at Aragon Global Management, a multi-sector global long/short fund, where he focused on international financial equities. Prior to Aragon, he was an associate covering the insurance and asset management sectors at Fox, Pitt-Kelton. Mr. Stephens also held various roles at Credit Suisse, where he was an Associate in the Financials Services Division and a Financial Institutions Group Investment Banking Analyst. Anthony Burton joins as an Executive Director and Portfolio Manager, based in London. He will co-run TMT equity strategy with Phil Pearson. Prior to joining O'Connor, Mr. Burton joined GLG Partners in 2008 as a TMT Equity Portfolio Manager and Partner. Prior to GLG, he worked at Merrill Lynch as a TMT Equity Portfolio Manager in the Merrill Lynch Strategic Investment Group and before that as a Global Technology Equity Sales Specialist. Prior to Merrill Lynch, Mr. Burton worked in Global Technology Equity Sales at Nomura in London and Fortrend Securities in Melbourne. He holds a Bachelor of Business degree in Finance from Monash University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Finance from the University of Melbourne.

Phil Pearson – Portfolio Manager, London, TMT

Phil Pearson joins as an Executive Director and Portfolio Manager, based in London. He will co-run the TMT equity strategy with Anthony Burton. Prior to joining O'Connor, Mr. Pearson worked at GLG Partners as a Partner and TMT Equity Portfolio Manager where he worked for 15 years. He started his career as a Graduate at UBS Asset Management. Mr. Pearson graduated from the University of Cambridge with a first class MA degree in Natural Sciences.

Paul Findlay – Portfolio Manager, London, European Generalist

Paul Findley joins as a Director and Portfolio Manager at O'Connor, based in London, focused on European Long Short Equities. Prior to joining O'Connor in 2016 Paul was Founder and Chief Executive of Bramshott Capital LLC where he focused on classic fundamental long/short European equity. Prior to Bramshott Capital Paul worked at Moore Capital heading a team of analysts. Paul was previously responsible for the UK Equity High Alpha team at Threadneedle Investments. He began his career at BAe Systems Pension Fund and holds a Joint Honours in Electronics and Management Science from the University of Keele.
