Sydney, 10 September: UBS Global Asset Management celebrates the first anniversary of the UBS Microcap Fund. The Fund has been extremely successful for clients, achieving a 14.10% 1,2 return (after fees), and outperforming its benchmark by 20.36%, despite volatile global financial markets.

The UBS Microcap Fund (the Fund) was established to uncover undervalued businesses with significant growth potential whilst leveraging UBS's proven small cap investment capability in Australia. The Fund offers investors access to an actively managed, core style, diversified portfolio of microcap securities and since its inception3, the Fund has consistently outperformed its investment objective of returning (after management costs) in excess of the S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Accumulation Index (benchmark).

"Despite launching in particularly difficult markets, the UBS Microcap Fund has exceeded expectations, demonstrating UBS Global Asset Management's dedication to and capability to invest in small caps in Australia," said Joel Fleming, Portfolio Manager for the UBS Microcap Fund. "We are thrilled to have achieved 14.10%1,2 return for our investors and look forward to continuing this momentum into the Fund's second year."

The UBS Australian Small Companies Fund has also been a strong performer in recent years. This fund has achieved a total return (after management costs) of 13.12%2 verses its benchmark (S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Accumulation Index) of 3.05% in the last three years.

The UBS Australian Small Companies Fund is an actively managed portfolio of securities listed on recognised exchanges in Australia and New Zealand, or those we reasonably expect to list within six months. Normally this fund will hold between 30 and 60 stocks with the majority of investments to be made in securities not in the S&P/ASX 100 Index.

Stephen Wood, Portfolio Manager for the UBS Australian Small Companies Fund said; "Small caps represent a vast and dynamic opportunity as companies in this sector tend to be under researched and overlooked by other investors. The team has been very focused and diligent in how we approach and research stocks with respect to our investment criteria and this is evident in the double digit returns we continue to achieve."
