Zurich/Basel, 20 November 2014 – The new UBS SumUp app won the Best Swiss App 2014 award at the second Best of Swiss Apps Awards ceremony held in Zurich in November. UBS's new card terminal for mobile card payments beat over one hundred other apps to take this year's top spot.
UBS was the first bank in Switzerland to launch such a low-cost, security-certified solution. The easy-to-use app allows small businesses in particular to accept payments by card. Used in conjunction with a low-cost card terminal, this makes mobile card payments possible and turns smartphones into virtual cash registers. The app was developed in collaboration with mobile card payment systems specialist SumUp.
Commenting on the new Sumup card terminal, the jury of industry professionals said it was an ingenious business idea, adding that it offers a simple, intuitive solution to the need to accept credit cards as a payment method on a mobile device. They commented that it is a simple step from unpacking the card terminal to accepting the first payment and that the app's appearance is exemplary, contemporary, and simply fun.

The Best of Swiss Apps awards honor Switzerland's best apps.
