A blue and white striped fabric

Philippe Decrauzat's work spans painting, sculpture and film. He draws inspiration from Russian Constructivism, Op Art and the geometric forms characteristic of Minimalism. Decrauzat merges these influences with elements of pop culture including science fiction, advertising, graphic design and cinematography. This fusion allows him to create a unique form of abstraction. His approach is focused on visual perception and optical illusions.

In works such as Untitled (2010) from the artist’s Vertical Wave series, he simulates volume through the distribution of hand-painted lines, creating a rippling effect. Decrauzat also experiments with repetition and variation and explores how the perception of the image changes based on the viewer’s position. His technique conveys a sense of rhythm and progression, reminiscent of a sequence of film stills. A paradoxical impression is created, with each undulating line generating a strong sense of kinetic energy yet simultaneously conveying complete stillness as the placement of the work itself remains static.
