Jakob Bill is a Swiss painter and art historian most known for his contributions to the Concrete Art movement. Born into an artistic legacy as the son of Max Bill, a leading figure in Constructivist and Concrete Art, Jakob Bill has continued and expanded upon these traditions while developing his own unique artistic voice.
Educated in Zurich, Bill studied both art and archaeology, a combination that deeply shapes his work. His understanding of structure, proportion and order, influenced by both ancient and modern aesthetics, is evident in his precise compositions. Working primarily with geometric forms and carefully balanced color relationships, Bill’s paintings and sculptures exemplify the tenets of Concrete Art—clarity, rationality and non-representational abstraction.
Bill’s works, such as 1977 No. 4, are characterized by their carefully constructed spatial relationships. Through vibrant colors and meticulous arrangements of shapes, he creates dynamic yet harmonious compositions.
