As a lead-up to the inaugural fair and as part of the Singapore Art Week Symposium, UBS and Art SG host a virtual discussion series in collaboration with Singapore’s National Arts Council. Taking place on 29th January, 2021 at 3-4PM SGT, the talk features a panel of regional experts including UBS Regional Chief Investment Officer Kelvin Tay, looking at Singapore’s rise as a financial center and the development of its art and luxury market in relation to other East-Asian and South-East Asian Tiger Economies.

A new art fair is coming to Singapore in 2021 bringing with it an exciting roster of established and experimental contemporary art from galleries in Southeast Asia and across the globe. Led by Fair Director Shuyin Yang, ART SG will celebrate its inaugural edition from 5 – 7 November (VIP Preview 4 November) at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, and is presented by Founding and Lead Partner, UBS.

ART SG promises to be an exciting addition to Singapore’s vibrant cultural landscape, presenting a unique mix of gallery presentations and programmed events. Set to feature a selection of up to 80 leading galleries, the fair will provide art lovers and collectors with an opportunity to discover Singapore’s rich local scene, alongside stand-out artworks from international exhibitors.

The new addition to Southeast Asia’s cultural calendar will place an emphasis on education and events, with a public program including discussions led by Cosmin Costinas, Executive Director and Curator of Para Site Hong Kong. The ART SG X UBS Discussion Series will explore a diverse range of topics inspired by the Singapore art scene and beyond, delving deep into the region’s contemporary culture in the context of the global art landscape.

“We are delighted to be the Founding and Lead Partner of this exciting new Art Fair. ART SG is a unique opportunity to develop a world-class fair in Singapore,” says Edmund Koh, President Asia Pacific at UBS. “The fair has a strong management team with a proven track record, so we are confident ART SG will be successful in tapping into Southeast Asia’s growing appreciation for contemporary art.”

Shuyin Yang adds: “We are excited by the overwhelmingly positive response to ART SG so far and look forward to welcoming a line-up of stellar international, regional and local galleries to the fair this November. We are committed to providing a strong platform for the highest quality artworks and thoughtful programming, which will be complemented by the best curated experiences Singapore has to offer.”

The new fair has already attracted significant interest from galleries worldwide. A series of applications is currently under review by the ART SG Selection Committee, which comprises industry experts from Sean Kelly Gallery, Victoria Miro, TKG+, Sullivan+Strumpf and Richard Koh Fine Art. Further details of the first-year gallery list are expected to be announced soon.

“We look forward to building a major hub fair for the region in the years to come,” says ART SG Co-Founder Magnus Renfrew, adding that he is “thrilled to have the support of UBS as Founding and Lead Partner”. For Renfrew, 2021 is the time to create a fair in Southeast Asia of international standards, bringing together the world’s top galleries, artists and collectors.
