Money Market Funds (MMFs) are regulated collective investment vehicles investing in highly liquid short-term securities, primarily Commercial Paper and Certificates of Deposit. They are being managed based on certain (mostly regulatory) restrictions in relation to the liquidity profile of the underlying securities, the type of securities that can be included, diversification principles and the duration and credit risk they are allowed to take. This makes a conservatively run MMF a close cash alternative.
