An end to world hunger?

Sonia Lo, CEO of Crop One Holdings

What we're doing is really important because it solves a number of the world's pressing food issues.

  • Crop One Holdings (COH) is the world's largest vertical farmer.
  • This type of farming has existed since Babylonian times but the industry has grown with the rise of LED lighting and other technology.
  • Vertical farming yields far more crops per square meter than traditional farming or greenhouses, requires less water and can be used all year. Additionally, vertical farms can be built near the consumer reducing food spoilage and carbon emissions due to transportation.
  • In June 2018, COH partnered with Emirates Flight Catering to create the world's largest vertical farm - 130 thousand square feet, due to open in Dubai by the end of 2019.
  • Sonia was named a Technology Pioneer at the World Economic Forum in 2000 while COH was a finalist in Fast Company's 2018 World Changing Ideas Awards.
