Creating belonging through stories and support

Creating belonging through stories and support
Meet Michael, a Quant Developer in the Investment Bank, where he helps power low-latency, high-frequency trading systems. His career journey was built on curiosity, grit, and the support of our internal mobility program. Like many employees, the path wasn’t linear. Michael started in production support and then transitioned into software engineering, driven by a desire to lean into his technical strengths and contribute to something bigger than himself.
Thanks to UBS’s commitment to internal mobility, Michael was able to explore new roles, build new skills, and find a career path that aligned with his passions. He credits this flexibility as a key reason he’s stayed with the firm for over a decade.
In addition to be being a Quant Developer, Michael's an active member of the Asian Professional Community, where he plans events that spotlight culture, foster connection, and create space for others to be seen and heard.
One of his proudest contributions? Co-planning a crowd-favorite ping pong tournament that’s grown into a beloved tradition—welcoming everyone from beginners to seasoned players, and even featuring an Olympian guest.
Michael also plays a key role in Lunar New Year celebrations and other heritage events, encouraging colleagues to share their stories and traditions.
“When we share our stories at work, we create space for others to feel seen and proud of who they are. It’s about helping peers feel they truly belong.”
Michael believes that when people see themselves reflected in their workplace, it opens doors, not just for individuals, but for entire communities.
With over 60 network chapters globally and more than 45,000 unique members, our employee networks are a key engine for creating and supporting a culture of engagement and belonging for all employees.
