Meet Binit from robotics

So to start, could you describe your job here?

I work as a team leader in India, helping to drive the business application of robotics. We’re responsible for automating process-driven, manual tasks using various next gen automation tools. My team also helps many departments to build robots themselves to sustain this technology shift.

What’s the most exciting part of your job?

Learning. Yes, knowledge is what excites me! I am learning more about robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), and I’m getting certified in next gen tools and technologies. While many big financial companies are just starting to think about robotics, we‘re actually at the helm of implementing it. Being ahead in learning futuristic tools and techniques gives me satisfaction.

When did you first get into technology? Did you study it?

I’ve had an interest in economics and technology since childhood. While studying Physics at university, I realized I wanted to become a technologist and hence did a master’s degree in computer applications.

How did you get into robotics?

My interests aligned perfectly with a role here. My team has many cases which need to be solved using robotics and we’ve already deployed robots into the real world.

What do you think robotics will look like in ten years?

Well, robotics is going to impact the world of operations, big time, from technological operations to back-end office tasks. I think that wherever there are pre-defined processes, they will be taken over by robots in the next 10 years. This will allow people to focus on other ways to add value.

Do your friends and family understand what you do?

Yes. My family and friends are big supporters. On a lighter note, my son recently asked me to create a robot to operate TV channels on his command!

Do you think the UBS culture fits with technology people?

Oh yes. Senior management is impressive. They have a clear vision of what they are trying to achieve. I feel that the culture here is more technology oriented than in many big companies.

Which other countries do you work with and how has technology made teamwork easier?

I work globally. I have to interact with multiple functions that are based globally, from Sydney to Singapore, Hong Kong to London, Zurich to the US. Being based in Pune, I have most of my team members in India. And all of this is possible due to technological advancement.

If you could instantly acquire one talent, what would it be?

The ability to build a rocket.
