Portrait of Victoria, Graduate trainee

Hi Victoria. So tell us, why did you pick UBS?

After researching internships at different firms, I was attracted to UBS because of the people. I got a sense of the collaborative culture and was really excited to see how this extended internationally. Especially at a firm with such a massive global footprint.

What was your personal highlight from the UBS internship experience?

I was given responsibility on projects, and was always told why I was doing something and not just how. I had the support to add value to the team and was encouraged to be curious and ask questions.

And the biggest challenge?

A challenge was figuring out how to balance my tasks and responsibilities, while also making sure I had time to meet people and attend events. This was quite a nice challenge to have.

Why did you choose our Graduate Training Program (GTP) after your internship?

When I look back at my internship, I was able to learn each day. This made the decision to return an easy one. I was constantly engaged and challenged during my internship, and was excited to continue feeling as a graduate trainee.

And what are you up to here now?

I'm currently on a GTP placement within Human Resources, in the Employee Relations team. In this role, I research trainings and policies. I also contribute to investigations for work-related issues. My current position allows me to build my network through collaborating with others in HR and the wider businesses (both here and internationally). I’m interested to see what my next rotation will be, and how I can use what I've learned there.

What advice you would give incoming UBS interns?

Talk to as many people as you can and get as involved as possible! Set up time to chat with people on your team, outside your team, in your division, and in other divisions. Take advantage of the many events that happen, too.
I found myself learning so much by doing this and always had great conversations with others. There's a wealth of knowledge to explore and it helps you expand your network within the firm.

How do you relax after work?

After work, I like going for runs, doing yoga or making the most of happy hour with my friends. I also like trying out new recipes – although, more often than not, we decide on pizza!

Suit or smart casual?

Smart casual! I love shopping for clothes I can wear both at and outside of work.

How do you spend your lunch break?

I spend my lunches in the Weehawken cafe with my GTP friends, catching up on funny stories from the weekdays and weekends.
