meet Leeron

When Leeron joined us almost 2 years ago as employee number three in our rapidly-expanding technology team in Israel, it was the opportunity to work in a fast-paced global environment that made him interested in the role.

But he quickly realised that it’s UBS’s commitment to flexible working that’s the real game-changer for him. Flexible working helps him be productive and successful in his role, while maximizing the quality time he spends with his young family. He talks about his experience joining our team:

I’ve had a radical life change since joining UBS! I have two young daughters both under seven years old, and since UBS supports us to work from home, that means I’m able to spend high-quality time with them after they get home from school and kindergarten, during these most precious years. It’s a benefit that goes far, far beyond any other kind of salary or compensation.

The enormous scale of what UBS is working on from a tech perspective is what’s fascinating me the most about the job.

It’s been eye-opening to see first-hand how a big, formal, bank like this is nevertheless fully embracing a broad variety of the latest technologies like Azure and the top level tech-languages, and is culturally totally open to new ideas. Even in a smaller location like Israel, you’re working globally and you have an entry point into our complex tech environment.

When I started, I immediately suggested to take a different approach to what was being requested– and my team was receptive to my idea, really open to adopting it and to taking a different approach using different tools. Since then, I’ve been working on delivering. It’s a new web-based application that makes it easy to capture and present stats about the roughly 200 use-cases we monitor in the Security and Information Services team - and it’s on its way to being funded now.

So, a typical day for me means going through emails and having meetings like anyone else, and working on building my app. But then when my kids get home, I can stop for a while, and spend that precious time with them. Then I get back to work after they’ve gone to bed. It’s been great – and this is a way of working that’s fully supported by UBS, both in terms of the trust we’re given around getting our work done outside the physical office, and through the various tools and platforms we have available for collaboration. It’s a positive experience I really want to share with other people to show them they can do this too.
