Meet Labinot, an apprentice in London

Hi, Labinot, can you tell us about your role here?

I work in a team called the wealth management application support group (WM ASG). My role within the WM ASG team is to provide support to the applications used by our wealth managers. This includes dealing with any issues, errors or unexpected events that may occur. I am also responsible for some of the documentation process when I ensure that all relevant application information is in one central location.

Did you have any preconceptions of working at a bank?

I had some general presumptions, as I believe most people do. One was the idea of an unfriendly office environment. Based on my experience so far, I feel it's safe to say that this is as far from the truth as possible. I haven't felt more welcome in any other workplace than I do here. My team was fantastic from the very beginning.

If you weren’t working at UBS, what other job do you think you'd be good at?

I think I would’ve made a great actor. It always felt like second nature to me. I also think I could have been a comedian, as I tend to make a lot of jokes in my day-to-day life. People tend to only laugh at about 30 percent of my jokes… so if I could channel that 30 percent, I could be ok! Finally, I feel I could also be a good teacher. Whether mentoring or just helping people with work, I have always enjoyed teaching people what I know.

What are the things you love about working here?

One of the things I love about working here is the sense of pride I get walking through the door every morning. I am incredibly proud because it's a massive global organization with a long history. Another thing I love is the culture. The bank's behaviours and principles aren’t just words on a wall – they go to the very core of the organization. It’s a large company, but one that cares about people and its effect on the local and global environment. Finally, I love the workplace. It's a corporate environment, but there's a sense of comradery and team work that I haven't felt in the other organizations I’ve worked for.
