Portrait of Jing, Operations, Wuxi

More insights from Jing

Firstly, could you please introduce yourself?

I joined the firm as a graduate in 2004 and since then worked in many locations including London, Singapore, Shanghai and now I’m based in Wuxi, China.

What made you choose a career in the financial sector?

The dynamic environment and being able to working with a group of smart and fun people attracted me.

Can you tell us a bit about your current role and what you enjoy most about it?

I run an operations team at the firm's Wuxi Business Solutions Center. I enjoy talking to people most, whether it’s my team, my peers, internal clients, external peer companies, and sometimes even the local government as well.

What's interesting about your team?

The Wuxi Business Solutions Center (BSC) opened on November 1, 2016 (so we will be celebrating our one year anniversary soon). We grew from zero to today, where we have over 300 staff here. My team is very energetic and we have a short daily meeting to maintain good relationships. I enjoy working with my team very much. It is such a honor to witness each individual grow as the entire BSC grows.

What does diversity mean to you and how do you see it implemented in the corporate world?

To me, diversity is much more than just culture and gender. It means having an open heart and an open mind, really taking time and effort to listen and try to understand other people’s perspectives. I believe that continuing to promote diversity and encouraging a healthy dialogue among people will make the corporate world a better place to work.

What’s the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

“Be humble, as there is always something you can learn from every person around you.” This is what my dad shared with me on my first day at work, and it remains one of the best pieces of career advice that I have received.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

To teach in a high school. I had some great teachers who not only gave me knowledge, but also passed on their wisdom to me, and I wish I could do the same for the next generation.

How do you maintain your work-life balance?

I stopped trying to be a super-woman in every aspect and that helps.

How do you relax?

I spend quality time either at home or travelling with family and friends.

What is the best thing that happened to you recently?

After a six-month battle with cancer, my doctor just gave me the all clear and I am back at work!
