Thinking about a career in asset management?
Asset management at UBS in Poland is evolving fast. Teams are growing, responsibilities are expanding, and more roles are moving closer to investment decision-makers.
Jakub, our Investment Specialist, shares what that looks like in practice, from his day-to-day role to the path that brought him here, and why Poland is becoming a key hub for these opportunities.
What does an Investment Specialist do?
I work closely with portfolio managers, operations teams, and IT, which means I see how ideas turn into real investment decisions. What makes it even more exciting is being part of a newly established team in Poland. We’re not just contributing, we’re helping build something from the ground up.
On a day-to-day basis, this includes:
I studied finance and accounting, specializing in Investment Advisory, and had an early interest in financial markets. After university, I worked as a performance analyst and later as a research analyst in an Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) team. Each role helped me build both technical skills and confidence in understanding how markets really work.
Joining UBS felt like a natural next step - an opportunity to apply what I’d learned and keep growing.
One thing I’ve realized is that there isn’t just one way into asset management. Many people start in operational or middle office roles, where curiosity and analytical thinking are key, and then move into investment, project-based, product, or front office roles over time.
Success comes from combining strong technical skills with the ability to work with people and navigate complexity.
One of the biggest shifts I’ve seen is how roles in Poland have evolved.
We’re moving away from a pure shared‑service model toward business‑aligned teams with end‑to‑end ownership. That means roles today often have broader scope, greater complexity, and closer proximity to investment decision‑makers.
Poland is quickly becoming a strategic hub for UBS Asset Management, creating strong opportunities for growth.
As a data‑driven industry, asset management is a natural environment for AI to enable deeper insights, unlock more sophisticated analysis and support smarter decision-making. Our approach is pragmatic, focusing on solutions that deliver long-term value rather than short-lived trends. In practice, that means embedding AI into everyday workflows, applying it where it creates real benefit, improving how teams work and helping drive more informed decisions and meaningful impact.
One moment I’m particularly proud of was joining a newly established front-office team within the Investments Center of Excellence, created to bring together specialized expertise to support investment teams globally.
Building the team from scratch meant quickly earning trust and delivering results. Within a few months, we introduced improvements and built strong collaboration with IT. Seeing that translate into real impact has been incredibly rewarding.
Asset management in Poland today goes beyond traditional support roles. It’s about ownership, innovation and real influence.
If you’re curious about financial markets and enjoy working with data, this is a place where you can build a career with real impact from day one.
