Twenty works by leading contemporary artists have been acquired for The Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (NMNM), through the support of UBS (Monaco) S.A. Eleven of these works are currently on view in a special exhibition at the Villa Paloma from 9 February until 20 May 2018.

Amongst the highlights of the NMNM’s 2018 programme, this carefully curated show features new acquisitions from artists including Matti Braun, Nathalie Du Pasquier, Francesco Gennari, Apostolos Georgiou, Jef Geys, João Maria Gusmão + Pedro Paiva, Roland Flexner, Jean-Michel Sanejouand, and Daniel Steegmann Mangrané.

In the seven years of supporting the NMNM’s exhibitions as the museum’s main partner, UBS (Monaco) S.A. has made a significant contribution toward the NMNM’s investment in the enrichment and perpetuity of Monaco’s national contemporary art collections. Dedicated to the development and preservation of contemporary creation, this young collection strives to reflect on the position, wealth and breadth of art today, with an outlook of openness that encourages dialogue with its audiences.

UBS’s support, in tandem with the State budget allocated to the NMNM, has allowed the museum to enhance its collection of key works by living artists in line with the museum’s diverse interests. The collections cover a fascinatingly broad-ranging set of research strands that span the arts, sciences and technical histories, in particular those relating to photography, cinema and automata. Landscape as a conceptual construct is also a primary theme, investigating it as a territory with the capacity to overcome the notions of boundaries and otherness. In addition, to areas of exploration in acting, production, scenery, theatre and performance.

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition, Marie-Claude Beaud, Director of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, said of the partnership: “Since the beginning of our partnership and up until today, we have been lucky enough to benefit from a support and a rare philanthropic understanding in relation to our needs and requests. Thanks to UBS, in 2018 and the upcoming years, we will be able to continue our research and carry out a full programme of both surprising and original projects.”

Agnes Falco, Country Head UBS (Monaco) S.A., explains: “As an economic player in Monaco for over 60 years we are committed to developing Monaco’s attractiveness by investing both in our offers and services, and in the support of our institutions. This partnership with the NMNM expresses our deep wish to participate actively in the cultural development of the Principality by allowing the Museum to develop its collection and offer an exhibition programme at Villa Paloma and Villa Sauber throughout the year.”

The NMNM explores the Principality of Monaco’s heritage and sheds light on the art of today through temporary exhibitions in its two locations: Villa Paloma and Villa Sauber. This approach is reflective of Monaco’s position as a unique territory with a rich history distinguished by the dialogue between artistic, cultural and scientific disciplines, and renowned for the support given to its creators, thinkers and researchers.
