Shigeki Tanaka appointed Vice Chairman in Japan

Tokyo, June 11, 2025 – UBS announced that Shigeki Tanaka, former Representative Director and Deputy President of Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank (SMTB), will join UBS on July 1 as Vice Chairman of both UBS Securities Japan Co., Ltd. (UBSSJ) and UBS SuMi TRUST Wealth Management Co., Ltd (UBS SuMi).

Prior to joining UBS, Tanaka was the lead SMTB group negotiator on a number of international and domestic alliances, including UBS’s and SMTG’s agreement to jointly launch UBS SuMi in 2021. He also led Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group’s (SMTG) core corporate and real estate businesses.

In the fiscal year ended December 2024, UBS’s securities and wealth management arms recorded an 82% increase in net consolidated profits in Japan.
