Zurich, 5 October 2016 – UBS Career Comeback program, launched this September as a pilot in Switzerland and the U.S., targets skilled and experienced professionals wanting to restart their careers after a break. UBS has already recruited 27 people in Switzerland and the U.S. and is exploring rollouts to other regions. UBS Career Comeback combines on-the-job experience with training, mentoring and coaching to support career returners.
“We know experienced talent can add value to our workplace, and enrich our culture,” says Carolanne Minashi, Global Head Diversity & Inclusion. “But it’s not always easy to find the right opportunity and support to return to work after a career break. That’s where UBS Career Comeback can make a difference. ”
The program is aimed particularly at female professionals who have been absent from the workforce for over two years. It is one of many tools UBS is using to fulfil its aspiration to increase the ratio of women in management roles to one third.

The first intake
In Switzerland, 15 returnees (14 women and 1 man) were hired into regular, open, permanent positions in Zurich as well as Geneva and in different areas of the bank – such as client advisory, accounting, financial reporting, project management, legal and human resources. The new hires will be part of a class and support system of people who go through the program together.
In the U.S., returnees were hired into a 16-week program, including three days of onboarding with mentoring, coaching and more. At the end of the program, UBS explores further employment opportunities with them.
