Genossenschaft «im Chrüz», Hohenrain

A bistro with a village shop and post office, along with jobs and training places for young people with cognitive limitations or learning difficulties, is being created in Hohenrain. The project is being made a reality by the Genossenschaft «im Chrüz», in collaboration with the Heilpädagogisches Zentrum Hohenrain. The sheltered jobs and training places are offered in the areas of cooking, service and sales. Trainees with disabilities can complete a two-year practical training course (PrA) or a two-year training course with the Federal Certificate of Vocational Education and Training (EBA) in one of the three specialist areas. Experts from the Heilpädagogisches Zentrum Hohenrain support employees as they undertake their diverse activities.

The UBS Foundation for Social Issues and Education is supporting the furnishing of the premises with a contribution of CHF 30 000.

Fondation Vroom*, Geneva

Fondation Vroom promotes the professional and social integration of deaf and hard-of-hearing people. This group of people often face substantial issues in finding a suitable position in the primary labour market. To counteract this, the foundation is opening the restaurant «Vroom» with inclusive full-time and part-time positions for people who are primarily deaf or hard of hearing, thereby encouraging dialogue between hearing and non-hearing people. Located in the heart of Geneva, the premises are tailored to the target group’s needs prior to opening, while the new interiors and materials used look at the topic of hearing loss in an innovative way.

The UBS Foundation for Social Issues and Education supports the interior design and structural modifications to the restaurant «Vroom» with CHF 20 000.

Schweizerische Epilepsie-Stiftung, Zurich

The Schweizerische Epilepsie-Stiftung encompasses the EPI Klinik, various research departments, a school and a youth centre, as well as EPI WohnWerk, which offers a large number of residential places and sheltered jobs. For example, the plant nursery provides sheltered jobs for people with epilepsy or cognitive impairments. The accessible new-build with integrated plant nursery and shop is home to adapted working areas with space for wheelchairs and walking aids, permitting employees to work independently or with a carer.

The UBS Foundation for Social Issues and Education supports the establishment of the plant nursery with CHF 50 000.

Croce Rossa Svizzera, Lugano

The Swiss Red Cross operates two reception centres in Ticino for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers. This focuses on social inclusion, as well as the mental health of these children and young people: they generally have a challenging, often traumatic, journey behind them. The CRS organises various services, including summer activities to enable the young people to get to know Switzerland and its customs and come into contact with people of the same age from the region. It also holds language courses and school catch-up courses, which, in turn, enable young people to learn important skills that help them find their feet in Switzerland – be it in their daily lives, at school or when studying.

The UBS Foundation for Social Issues and Education is supporting the execution of the school summer courses with a grant of CHF 10 000.
