I began my career advising clients in 1982 when the Dow Jones Industrial Average was around 750, today it is over 25,000. The business has grown and dramatically changed during those 36 years, but my principals of investing have remained constant; properly manage risk, hire the best money managers to help you along the way, and be patient and trust your plan.

My group strictly adheres to these principals. We take a comprehensive approach to managing wealth and are constantly striving to gain more knowledge and stay ahead of the changes that are inevitable in our world. My main role in our group is investment strategy. This encompasses the macro view of our economy and how it affects the investment markets, as well as, how we position investments in the current environment. I spend most of my day managing portfolios and researching investment opportunities using both UBS and outside research. UBS is arguably one of the best research firms in the world.

The first 26 years of my career was spent at Wachovia Securities and it predecessor, Wheat First Butcher Singer. Those years helped shape my beliefs both professionally and personally. I firmly believe in giving back by serving my community. When my wife and I realized that our son was dyslexic, we help found a school for dyslectic children. It now serves almost 100 students in our community. In my opinion, what I do outside of my professional life is very much a part of my overall career.

I am a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a B.S. in Business Administration from The Kenan Flagler School of Business. I was also a member of the UNC Golf team. I hold my Series 7, 63 and Uniform Investment Advisor Representative licenses. In 2010, I completed a year long wealth management training program through UBS and received a "Wealth Advisor" designation.

My career in the financial services industry beganover 16 years ago at Wachovia Securities. While my roles and responsibilities have evolved over the years, my primary areas of focus are:

• Concentrated equity solutions

• Stock option planning solutions

• Custom in-depth financial and retirement plans

• Retirement distribution plan solutions

As an executive, I understand you spend most of your time either in the office or at home with little time to spare. Your investment portfolio deserves the same level of attention. In addition to salary compensation, executives build wealth through restricted stock, stock options and non-equity based compensation. Understanding a company's trading policies, vesting schedules, minimum stock value holding requirements and the impact of regulatory restrictions on company stock transactions allows us to help tailor our recommendations based on individual needs.

Most importantly, by providing timely analysis and advise we can help busy executives like yourself save time.

My professional achievements and education

• Bachelor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

• Electrical Engineering degree magna cum laude NC State University

• Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®)

• General Securities license including a Series 7, 31, 63 and 65

Outside the office:

• I served in the US Navy onboard the aircraft carrier, USS Nimitz.

• I live in Winston Salem, NC with my wife and two girls.

• I am an avid outdoorsman who loves to fish, play golf and travel.
