Recent COVID-19 vaccine news, along with the conclusion of the US presidential election, are reasons for optimism for US investors, according to the survey. With 81% viewing the vaccine progress and 71% viewing the election outcome as highly positive, most plan to take action on their portfolios, including buying on dips, increasing cash, and increasing stocks. Given president-elect Biden's win, almost half plan to boost sustainable investing in their portfolios in the next 6 months.

More than half expect the positive impacts of the election result to last over the next four years with specific focuses on the US economy (72%), the stock market (70%), and their own personal finances (65%).

Additionally, most investors and business owners report high confidence in the election process. Further, half of investors anticipate that Republicans will keep control of the Senate after the Georgia runoff in January, while half of business owners believe that Democrats will gain Senate control.

When it comes to returning to post-pandemic normalcy, a COVID-19 vaccine tops the list of priorities, and most investors are confident that it will be effective. Other key factors include public vaccine adoption, herd immunity, and treatment improvements.

Business owners’ outlook for their own businesses stays strong at 77%. Most also have a positive outlook for the US economy over the next six months, and more than one-third plan on hiring additional employees. Top concerns for business owners include COVID-19, healthcare costs, and potential tax increases.

Despite reported optimism, most US investors say they are cautious about a decline in markets and think that expert guidance is especially important at this time, with 87% interested in discussing options with their advisor, if they have one. Business owners agree, with 92% indicating they would like more guidance than usual.
