UBS provides investment services to over 300 charities with assets in excess of £1.2bn (as at 30 June 2012) and, as a result, we have a varied client base ranging from large national charities and foundations to smaller individual trusts. We have built this leading presence in the charity sector through the breadth of our investment capability and the high quality of the advice we offer to our clients.
We have a dedicated charity team, the principals of which have on average 25 years' experience in the industry. We offer a highly personalised service that can be tailored to your charity’s specific needs and will draw on the worldwide resources of UBS. We actively encourage all members of our charity team to become trustees of at least one charity and now have considerable first-hand experience of the issues facing trustees.
We believe that getting to know your needs is crucial. The closer our mutual understanding, the greater the trust between us and the more productive our partnership will be. We are focused on charities.
Expert advice on charitable sector issues
We retain the services of Professor Paul Palmer. Paul is our independent consultant on charities and advises our charity team and clients on sector regulation, finance and management issues. Paul is Associate Dean at the Cass Business School, City University and has specialised in charity governance issues for many years.
We run a comprehensive trustee education programme that covers a wide variety of subjects of relevance to those operating in the sector. Often we will invite other "charity professionals" to co-present with us. We also host a number of educational events for our charity clients, such as our annual Charity Investment Symposium as well as producing an annual compendium which addresses key investment issues in the charity sector.
Our commitment to the community
Responsible corporate behaviour is an important part of our culture, identity and business practice. As a corporation and through our employees, we strive to make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate and channel our resources through the UBS Community Affairs Programme to ensure they are maximised for the benefit of our community partners. The programme is carefully managed by a team of professionals to ensure these hugely valuable contributions of time, money and other support and resources have a very positive and sustained impact on those we seek to support.
We have received a number of accolades, the more recent including:
- Business in the Community - Big Tick (2005 to 2010)
- City of London Dragon Award - Community Partnership (2010 and 2012)
- East London Business Alliance - Employee Volunteer of the Year Award (1998 to 2010)
Our commitment to philanthropy
We are committed to supporting education and children through the UBS Optimus Foundation, an expert grant-making foundation established by UBS in 1999. The Foundation works to break down barriers that prevent children from reaching their potential by funding leading organisations to improve the health, education and protection of children. The Foundation supports projects in any country where children face adversity. UBS covers all the Foundation's administrative costs so that 100% of all donations go directly to the projects.
Our investment and asset allocation philosophy
We have devised a method to use our understanding of your needs to develop the investment strategy that aligns your goals and performance targets with the amount of risk you wish to take. We have the ability to populate your portfolio with products spanning the entire investment universe, as suitable.
We take a look at the whole picture, including your investments, capital commitments, the history of legacies, ethical considerations, permanent endowments and the level of grant giving. Our aim is to ensure that, as our client, your interests drive the entire process. Our approach is driven by the belief that long-term financial planning is a vital ingredient in helping you to achieve your goals.
