North America

Mexico City

The most populous city in North America, with a population exceeding 8.84 million within its city limits, is one of two in the Americas founded by Native Americans (the other is Quito in Ecuador). The locals, also known as chilangos, love their food spicy: you will find chili on popular dishes such as tacos, tortillas and quesadillas. The Plaza de la Constitución (also known as Zócalo), in the heart of town, is a landmark that used to be the ceremonial center in the ancient Aztec city of Tenochtitlan.
