Our network

Established in 1999, the UBS Optimus Foundation Switzerland is an independent legal entity and a registered charity in Switzerland. As part of its growth strategy, and reflecting UBS's commitment to support the Foundation's activities, new entities have, or will be set up in key locations in which UBS operates.

Foundation governance

As an organization, we adhere to the highest standards of foundation governance, and we demand the same from our partners and projects. This means you can have the utmost confidence in your association with the Foundation.

These principles include:

  • Compliance with the principles of the Swiss Foundation Code
  • Best practices for effective implementation, checks and balances, transparency and sustainability
  • Internal control system (ICS) in line with the statutory provisions of the Swiss Code of Obligations
  • Member of SwissFoundations and proFonds

Controlling bodies

The UBS Optimus Foundation Board directs the acquisition and distribution of funds, and monitors business management. The business office is responsible for the operative management of the Foundation. Our annual statements are audited by PricewaterhouseCooper, Basel. We are also overseen by government regulators for foundations of the BVG and Stiftungsaufsicht beider Basel (BSABB)

Program and partner principles

We insist on the highest standards of quality when selecting and monitoring our programs and program partners. Each program proposal is evaluated in strict conformity with our evaluation criteria before we enter a financial commitment. In principle, any non-profit organization and/or university can submit an application for support. A clearly defined process exists so that applications reach the Foundation independently. Applicants can obtain all the information and application forms below.

Program progress check

We have a comprehensive approach to monitoring our programs. The program partners are accountable for routine program reporting, which ensures we receive regular updates on progress. The Foundation's experts conduct periodic site visits and reviews. In addition, the programs are evaluated for their impact by an external, independent expert. During an ongoing partnership with the Foundation, the program partner must present a plan with key performance indicators and targets to ensure ongoing financial support for the program, beyond the completion of the UBS Optimus Foundation grant.
