UBS to act as main sponsor for CULTURA - The World Art & Antiques Fair
UBS will act as main sponsor for CULTURA - The World Art & Antiques Fair, which Basel will be hosting for the first time, from 13 to 21 November 1999. The main themes of the new fair will be classical Greek and Roman art, Orientalia and pre-Colombian art, as well as illuminated manuscripts and rare books. Among CULTURA's other attractions will be the classical antiques department and a section devoted to 20th century design, crafts and jewellery. Select pieces from private foundations and museums will also be on show. The latter is a new departure for CULTURA, which is thus presenting itself as an art and antiques fair that offers the public the chance to acquaint themselves with exhibits that are not for sale and otherwise virtually inaccessible.
UBS sees its involvement in CULTURA as a complement to its support for Art Basel, the world's premier contemporary art fair, of which it has been a sponsor since 1994. For UBS, both events are important elements in its significant commitment to art and culture. With this involvement the bank aims to promote the active confrontation with contemporary social trends, while fostering interest in and understanding for our cultural heritage.
UBS will be present at CULTURA with its own stand and a numismatics exhibition. The numismatics department forms part of UBS Art Banking, which - in addition to numismatics services - provides art-related advisory services for existing clients. Art Banking is provided as a banking service and is a complementary element in the comprehensive range of advisory and client care services offered to high-net-worth Private Banking clients.
