The UBS Culture Foundation supports artists and cultural projects displaying a broad variety in terms of content and form, aims and target groups, as well as time frame and financial range. This is not the place for a comprehensive description of the Foundation Board's diverse activities, but in order to give the reader an impression of the UBS Culture Foundation's funding practice we list here a selection of art and culture projects that the Foundation has supported in recent years. Unless otherwise noted the project descriptions have been taken from the grant proposals and thus reflect the level of information at the time when the application was processed.

Fotostiftung Schweiz – Purchase of Works by the Artistic Duo Cortis & Sonderegger

The Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur has been committed since 1971 to the preservation, analysis, and sharing of photographic works. It maintains an extensive collection with a focus on Swiss photography of the twentieth century.

Association for the Restoration of the Abbey Church of Payerne – Project Grant Restoration

The Abbey Church of Payerne was built in the eleventh century in the architectural style of Cluny and is the most important and largest example of a Romanesque church in Switzerland. Thanks to its affiliation with Cluny and the protection of the Burgundy royal family, Payerne experienced a significant boom.

Ventura Film SA – Ammann – Der Brückenbauer [Ammann - The Bridge Builder] by Martin Witz

In 1904 the young Swiss engineer Othmar H. Ammann left Switzerland and began his career in New York as a bridge builder.

Angelika Overath – Promotion Grant Novel

Ein Winter in Istanbul [A Winter in Istanbul] takes place in contemporary Istanbul and opens a window onto fifteenth century Constantinople. In the story, Cla, a teacher of religious education from the Engadine, meets Baran, a Turkish-Greek bon vivant and the son of German migrant workers.

Ensemble Vortex – Composition Grant for the "Quadrilatère" Project

The Ensemble Vortex is a collective of young instrumentalists and composers who graduated from the Geneva University of Music. Vortex connects current compositional forms, musical productions, digital technologies, and electro-acoustic music, thereby moving in new and original directions.

History Department, University of Basel – Project Grant "DESKTOP – Jacob Burckhardt Digital"

With the "DESKTOP" project, the History Department of the University of Basel, in collaboration with the Virtual Valley Foundation, is trying out an innovative model for the interaction of history and new media, taking Jacob Burckhardt as an example and giving vivid glimpses into history and science in the nineteenth century.
