To attract the very best talent from across the country, regardless of birthplace or background, we recently hosted our first UBS Sophomore Diversity Program in New York.

The two-day networking and development workshop (aimed at African-, Hispanic-, and Native-American students) showed the attendees what their future in finance could look like.

Quin, a student at the College of New Jersey, shared his gratitude for being included in the program: "I've never had the opportunity to be surrounded by so many intelligent and ambitious people at the same time. Although I have wanted a future in finance since my freshmen year of college, I have never been more excited for it then right now. Even though I learned a lot over the two day experience, my biggest takeaway is knowing just how remarkable of a culture UBS has created. I hope I will have more opportunities to experience and contribute to it."

During the program, the students learned about UBS and participated in fun icebreaker activities and networking meals. They also heard from two panels - members of our MOSAIC network (our cultural diversity employee resource group) and current graduate trainees - before taking a class on the "Art of Personal Selling."

An added benefit of the program was the UBS mentor each participant was assigned weeks before arriving in New York. The mentors from various businesses within the firm were asked to provide guidance to the attendees, before and during the program, as they enter the recruiting process for a UBS internship (and maybe a future in our Graduate Talent Program)!

Ken, head of advisory consulting in Wealth Management Advice and one of the program's mentors, had this to say, "Going into the program, I expected to meet intelligent, outgoing men and women with interesting backgrounds – and that's exactly what happened. There was a lot of young talent in that room and it was great to envision that for a few of those students, the UBS Sophomore Diversity Program could be the first step towards a career at UBS."

We value a workforce with diverse experiences, skills and perspectives. Based on the feedback below from Arthur, a sophomore at the University of Chicago, it appears the program is off to a strong start: "This was an exceptional opportunity to delve deeper into how UBS operates and what makes this firm so special. What stood out to me is how my mentor went above and beyond in making me feel welcomed and excited about the possibility of joining UBS."
