The orchestra Geneva Camerata (GECA), founded in 2013, is headed by its music director David Greilsammer and presently consists of a team of thirty-five young musicians from Switzerland and abroad. The concert program reflects the orchestra’s wide musical repertoire and features works from different epochs, genres and styles. In its first season, GECA performed around thirty concerts in which they not only focused on classical pieces with renowned soloists, but also involved productions that transcended the existing boundaries between musical genres, artistic categories and cultural milieus. Since the beginning, the orchestra has also supported the work of young composers allowing them to perform their new pieces. In the current season four premieres are scheduled, among them «Chatoiements de l’air» by Michael Pelzel (b. 1978). In his work as a composer the young organist from Rapperswil has already covered the full range of instrumental music, from solo pieces to chamber music to orchestral pieces. At present Pelzel is living and working in Berlin as a guest artist in the program of the German Academic Exchange Service where he is contributing a composition to the New Music Festival «Ultraschall» as one of several ensemble pieces being premiered.
The Foundation Board appreciates Geneva Camerata’s commitment to contemporary art music and supports the premiere of a new piece by Michael Pelzel with a project grant of CHF 8000.
