Martin Meyer

Martin Meyer has been vice-chairman of the UBS Culture Foundation since 2004; he became a member of the Board in 1998. He joined the feuilleton staff of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung in 1974 and was appointed its leading editor in 1992. He is a corresponding member of the Akademie für Deutsche Sprache und Dichtung and was awarded the Charles Veillon Essay Prize in 2004. In 2011 he received an honorary doctorate from the University St. Gallen.

He completed his studies in history, literature, and philosophy at the University of Zurich in 1976 with a PhD. He is the author and publisher of numerous works on contemporary history, philosophy and aesthetics, including Krieg der Werte (2003), Alfred Brendel. Ausgerechnet ich: Gespräche mit Martin Meyer (2001), and Ende der Geschichte? (1993).
