UBS expands Japan Wealth Management presence with Nagoya office

Media Releases APAC

UBS today opened a new Nagoya office to serve high net worth clients in central Japan, underpinning UBS's commitment to growing its wealth management business in Japan. Nagoya is the third wealth management office UBS has established in Japan, following the opening of its Osaka office in March 2006 and the launch of its Japan wealth management business in Tokyo in September 2004.

The new office opens today at Nagoya Lucent Tower, 36th floor, 6-1 Ushijima-cho, Nishi-ku, Nagoya. It will offer clients in central Japan easier access to the UBS "Client Experience," the firm's four-step advisory process for delivering tailored solutions to help clients meet their financial goals.

The Nagoya office will also enable UBS to broaden its client base in this key economic hub. Greater Nagoya, Japan's third largest economic region, has a wealth pool comparable in size to that of Spain, according to UBS research.

"We see wonderful opportunities to deliver UBS's wealth management expertise to high net worth individuals in central Japan," said Jean-Claude HUMAIR, UBS's Head of Wealth Management, Japan. "Nagoya has a long and respected tradition of entrepreneurship which aligns with UBS's strengths in advising business owners and other wealthy individuals on how best to meet their investment needs."

The Nagoya office marks the latest step in the growth of UBS's Japan wealth management business. UBS now employs some 175 dedicated wealth management personnel in Japan. In May 2007, UBS inaugurated its full-year Japan Associate program to train promising individuals with financial backgrounds to become client advisors accredited to UBS's rigorous standards.

Moreover, UBS's Tokyo wealth management office will expand at the end of July with a move to the Shin Marunouchi Building. Reflecting the rapid growth of its wealth management business in Japan, these new premises - in Tokyo's premier office building - will occupy four times its current space. The new facilities include dedicated wealth management client meeting rooms and a training center for UBS's Japan Associate program.
