Chicago's UBS Tower Officially Opens Today
Building Hailed as Architectural Achievement by Design Community
UBS announced today that UBS Tower, its new facility in Chicago has officially opened. Peter Wuffli, president of the UBS Group Executive Board, will host the opening day events, which include building tours, a reception with Chicago's business and community leaders, and a dedication ceremony featuring Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley.
Located at One North Wacker Drive, UBS Tower is a distinctive addition to the city's skyline and is the first UBS facility in the United States to co-locate the firm's multiple businesses. The building consolidates the firm's presence in the region by bringing together almost 1,500 Chicago-based UBS employees from four different businesses - UBS Warburg, UBS PaineWebber, UBS Global Asset Management and UBS O'Connor.
UBS Tower strengthens the firm's position within the Chicago financial district and the community-at-large," said Peter Wuffli. This building communicates our growing presence in the region and underscores the importance of the U.S. market to our worldwide business."
Designed by the acclaimed architectural firm Lohan Caprile Goettsch, UBS Tower is widely regarded as a premier architectural achievement by the design community, and was recognized at the 2002 Annual Greater Chicago Commercial Real Estate Awards as Development of the Year." One of the most important architectural features of the building is the public atrium lobby, which is framed by an exterior wall of ultra-transparent glass held by cables. This state-of-the-art structure is an innovation seen in only one other building in the world, an office in Frankfurt, Germany.
Other noteworthy features include:
* state-of-the-art infrastructure, workstations and common areas
* High-tech communications networks, including a rooftop communications and satellite center
* A restaurant, fitness center and conference center on the lower level, as well as convenient access to numerous neighborhood establishments
The Environments Group, five-time winners of Crain's Chicago Real Estate Award Design Firm of the Year," designed UBS's interior spaces to reflect the fusion of the firm's different business groups within a unified work environment. This objective is evident in all aspects of the building's interior design, including the furniture, finishes, and use of color and art.
The UBS offices will showcase artwork assembled by Nixon Art Associates, which includes pieces from the UBS Global Asset Management collection of historic Chicago architectural art as well as several works recently acquired at auction. In addition, UBS will feature pieces on loan from the renowned UBS PaineWebber Collection, including Archaic Head," Roy Lichtenstein's celebrated sculpture. The placement and selection of the artwork provides continuity from floor to floor, and complements the decorative elements and common theme throughout the UBS space.
