Zurich/Basel, 17 September 2014 – "SwissSkills Bern 2014", the first national Swiss occupational championships, will be held in Bern from September 17 to 21. With more than 130 different occupations from the trade, industry and services sectors present, it is the biggest competitive industrial fair in Switzerland. One thousand young participants will compete for the title of Swiss Champion in their respective fields. Visitors, mostly students, young people and teachers, will get a close-up look into the highly varied professional world. UBS will be there with its own stand. Visitors will be given the opportunity to explore and get their first impression of the world of banking via a virtual taster apprenticeship.

"All doors are open to young people who have completed an apprenticeship," says Lukas Gähwiler, CEO UBS Switzerland. "The dual education system is central to Switzerland’s success. That's why it’s essential that we continue to attach a great deal of importance to apprenticeships and maintain the opportunities to transfer between academic and vocational training."

As part of its Education Initiative, UBS is supporting "SwissSkills Bern 2014" as a Presenting Partner. The UBS Education Initiative was launched in 2012 to mark UBS’s 150th anniversary. It promotes education projects across all age groups, making a lasting contribution to strengthening Switzerland as a business location.

As one of the largest private employers and providers of apprenticeships in Switzerland, UBS offers around 1,800 apprenticeships. UBS apprentice and future IT application developer Dano Roost will be representing UBS, competing in the category of Application Development.
