UBS part of consortium acquiring Southern Water
UBS today announced that it is part of a consortium that has agreed to acquire 100% of Southern Water Capital Limited (Southern Water) from Royal Bank Investments Limited, a subsidiary of the Royal Bank of Scotland plc, for an enterprise value of £4.195 billion.
Southern Water is the fastest growing of the ten water and sewage companies (WaSCs) in the UK. Southern Water services Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight covering water services to over 2.3 million people and provides wastewater service to approximately 4.3 million people.
UBS Global Asset Management will manage the investment through its dedicated infrastructure arm, Infrastructure Asset Management. Southern Water will be the second investment for the UBS International Infrastructure fund. The first investment was Northern Star Generation, a US power generator with a portfolio of 13 power stations across the US.
John Fraser, Chairman and CEO of UBS Global Asset Management said "This investment in Southern Water, alongside our investment in Northern Star Generation earlier this year, demonstrates the top tier infrastructure offering available for our global client base".
