Nearly ten years on from the financial crisis and after unprecedented amounts of monetary stimulus, economies around the world are still struggling to generate sustainable growth. A realisation is dawning within central banks and among government authorities that economies are hamstrung by structural challenges that cannot be addressed with cyclical tools alone. Just how much downward pressure these structural issues are having on growth is the subject of much debate.
