Kiki Smith Chorus

For The Last Lot project in New York City, artist Kiki Smith created Chorus, a series of multicolored stained glass stars ranging from 18 inches to six feet in height. A kaleidoscope of hand-blown, translucent glass, the stars evoke the heyday of Broadway and the Theather District surrounding the installation site. The work pays tribute to Josephine Baker, a quintessential entertainer of her time who epitomized the glamour and spectacle of the 1920s burlesque follies. Funded and sponsored by UBS through the Art Production Fund, Chorus is made up of sculptures that are as individual and unique as the myriad pieces of colored glass used in their creation.
